VANDERBURGH COUNTY PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES JACOB CARL BUTLER SENTENCED ON MULTIPLE COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED CHILD EXPLOITATION, POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, AND VOYEURISM

Evansville, IN – Prosecutor Diana Moers announces that, on January 30, 2023, Judge David D. Kiely of the Vanderburgh Circuit Court sentenced Jacob Carl Butler on multiple counts of attempted child exploitation, possession of child pornography, and voyeurism.

Butler pleaded guilty on November 23, 2022. Butler’s criminal actions were uncovered when a child saw Butler taking pictures of the child while in the bathroom. The child disclosed the incident to the child’s parents, who then disclosed to law enforcement. The resulting investigation led to evidence that Butler had done the same to five other child victims. Butler confessed to his actions.

Butler was sentenced to 10 years for each count of attempted child exploitation against his six victims, 2 years for each count of voyeurism against his six victims, 5 years for possession of child pornography, and 1 year for public voyeurism. Each sentence is to be served concurrently in the Indiana Department of Correction.

Prosecutor Moers thanked her Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jeremy Kemper, as well as the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation Police Department and the Evansville Police Department, for their diligent efforts. She also thanked her staff, including Jon Carter and Robyn Mastison. DPA Kemper commended the bravery of the child who came forward and notified authorities of the attempted child exploitation, which in all likelihood prevented further victimization of children.

Moers stated: “We will use all resources and training available to aggressively prosecute those who target the most vulnerable in our society. My hope is that these brave children heal from this trauma while the Defendant is behind bars where he belongs.”
