16-YEAR-OLD SENTENCED FOR MURDER COMMITTED IN PREMEDITATED DRUG ROBBERY

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — Prosecutor Diana Moers announces that on December 4, 2025, 16-year-old Isam Clark was sentenced for the murder of 19-year-old Dalton Collins during an attempted robbery.

After a five-day trial in November, a jury found Clark guilty of one count of Murder and two counts of attempted robbery after the incident, which happened in March. At trial, the State presented a wealth of evidence identifying the Defendant as the shooter in the robbery gone wrong.

During sentencing Thursday, the Honorable Judge Ryan D. Hatfield sentenced Clark to 56 years at the Indiana Department of Correction for Count 1, Murder, and to 20 years at the Indiana Department of Correction for Count 3, Attempted Robbery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Count 2, Attempted Robbery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, was vacated.

Judge Hatfield ruled that Clark’s sentences will run concurrently, for a total sentence of 56 years to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction.

On March 22, 2025, dispatchers received a 911 call from Zachary Kiper, advising that he and 19-year-old Dalton Collins had been shot in an attempted robbery on Lodge Avenue.

Kiper and Collins had driven to the location to sell marijuana in a prearranged deal set up by Ethan Baughn. When they arrived, they were approached by Derrick Brifil, and later approached by Clark, who started shooting into their car.

Collins passed away from his injuries, while Kiper was treated for a gunshot wound. Brifil was also shot in the abdomen as Kiper returned gunfire.

At Clark’s sentencing, Collins’ mother presented a powerful impact statement. She remarked on the trauma that the entire family has had to endure because of the incident, including Collins’ younger siblings, as they now attempt to navigate life without him.

The State also brought aggravating factors to Judge Hatfield’s attention that were taken into consideration, including Clark’s juvenile criminal history over the past few years.

Clark faced a possible sentence of 45 to 65 years for the murder, and a possible sentence of 10 to 30 years for the attempted robbery.

Clark’s Co-Defendant, Derrick Brifil, is scheduled to go to trial in February.
