CONVICTED CHILD MOLESTER SENTENCED TO 40 YEARS IN PRISON

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — Prosecutor Diana Moers announces that on Friday, February 27, William Grumbo III was sentenced to several decades in prison after molesting a victim for years.

Grumbo was sentenced Friday to 40 years executed in the Indiana Department of Correction by the Honorable Judge Ryan D. Hatfield of the Vanderburgh County Circuit Court.

In January, a jury found Grumbo guilty of Child Molesting as a Level 1 Felony offense after he began sexually abusing the victim when she was just 10 years old, with the abuse continuing frequently until the age of 12. The investigation started after the young victim disclosed the abuse to her therapist.
When Grumbo was arrested, he admitted to molesting the victim and forcing her to perform sex acts, and told investigators, “anything she says, it’s true.”
Evansville Police Department Detectives Werne and Oxford investigated the case, which was tried by Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Amanda Champion and Melissa Haley. Other staff members of the Prosecutor’s Office who assisted in securing justice for the victim include T. Wilcox, J Pollock, M. Richardville, A. Carden, and J. Savage.

Deputy Prosecutor Champion commended the victim for her courage in both coming forward to report the crime and in testifying at Grumbo’s trial.

In addition to receiving a 40-year prison sentence, Grumbo will also now be classified as a sexually violent predator.
