MAN FOUND GUILTY AS CHARGED AFTER SEXUALLY ABUSING YOUNG VICTIM FOR YEARS

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — Prosecutor Diana Moers announces that on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, a jury found William Grumbo III guilty as charged in a Child Molestation trial.

Grumbo’s two-day trial began on January 20 and comes after he was arrested in July 2025 for the sexual abuse of a young victim, which took place over the course of two years.

Grumbo began sexually abusing the child when she was just 10 years old, with the abuse continuing frequently until the age of 12. The investigation started after the young victim disclosed the abuse to her therapist.

When Grumbo was arrested, he admitted to molesting the victim and forcing her to perform sex acts, and told investigators, “anything she says, it’s true.” At trial, the child testified to the horrific abuse committed by Grumbo.

Evansville Police Department Detectives Werne and Oxford investigated the case, which was tried by Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Amanda Champion and Melissa Haley. “I am proud of the courage of our child victim. She was brave enough to come forward about what was happening…” Champion stated.

The jury deliberated for one hour before finding Grumbo guilty as charged.

Grumbo is now scheduled to be sentenced on February 24. He faces a possible sentence of 20 to 50 years in prison for Child Molestation as a Level 1 Felony.
