SECOND DEFENDANT FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER AFTER RUTHLESSLY BEATING VICTIM TO DEATH

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — Prosecutor Diana Moers announces that on Wednesday, January 7, a jury found Charles Miles guilty of Murder for ruthlessly beating a victim to death.

On the night of June 22, 2024, a resident on East Tennessee Street called 911 and said a man showed up on his front porch covered in blood after an apparent assault. The victim lost consciousness shortly after knocking on the 911 caller’s door.

The victim was identified as Corey Fisher. Fisher was taken to the emergency room after the assault, where he coded multiple times after sustaining severe head trauma. He later passed away from his injuries, with the coroner determining his cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.

Security camera footage showed the attack on Fisher’s life unfold and was a key tool in the investigation and prosecution of the case.

The footage showed the attack began at the Sunoco gas station on East Louisiana Street, where Fisher was initially able to run away. As Fisher walked towards his home, Miles and his Co-Defendant, Cade Kirk, drove there in Kirk’s vehicle and waited for Fisher to approach before viciously assaulting him at the intersection of Heidelbach and Louisiana.

Fisher fell to the ground during the assault, where he was repeatedly struck in the head by both men, ultimately leading to his death. At the time of the attack, Kirk was also found to be in possession of brass knuckles but denied using them in the attack.

During the attack, approximately 42 punches were landed on Fisher’s person, almost all of which were to the head. Kirk punched 16 times, all of which were with his right hand, the hand seemingly reaching toward the brass knuckles in his right pocket. At a certain point in the altercation, Kirk held Fisher so Miles could continually rain at least 10 blows directly to Fisher’s head.

During an interview with police, Miles claimed he was “only trying to scare” Fisher after becoming upset over an incident involving a woman.

Miles’ trial began on Tuesday, and a guilty verdict was reached Wednesday after the jury deliberated for approximately 50 minutes. Special Magistrate Judge Emily Kemper presided.

The case was tried by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Stan Levco and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Keaton Maurer. “We’re pleased that on behalf of the family that justice was done,” Levco commented.

Miles is now scheduled to be sentenced on January 30. He faces a possible sentence of 45 to 65 years in the Indiana Department of Correction.

Kirk was previously found guilty of Murder in Fisher’s death and was sentenced to 55 years in prison in 2025. A jury also delivered a swift verdict in that case after deliberating for just 45 minutes.
